"How long have you been here?" I asked.
Since the beginning of time came the reply.
"Do you have a message for me?"
Silence was all I heard.
After awhile I realized that first, I needed to share a piece of myself.
"I am a man who does not follow his heart!
It was taken from me a long time ago
By someone whom I loved in an unconditional way.
I am here now, to reclaim that piece of me -
Both my heart and my ability to trust."
As I stood there looking at this magnificent Rock,
Regal in stature, high upon its perch, it finally replied.
"Son, I have been sitting here through all the ages,
watching the water day after day,
Surviving the rain, the wind, the the cold and the snow--
All the things mother earth has blown my way."
"Pieces of me have chipped and broken off,
Exposing the inner parts of myself -
the irridescent white rock you see sprouting out and about."
That, in fact, was what made you so remarkable I noted
"Yes, my armor has eroded with the passage of time, This much is true.
Making me more and more vulnerable, or so it would seem.
But still I persist , So my message to you is this.
The scars of time elude nobody.
As you grow older, more and more will appear.
Even if the scars begin so young,
You must trust what life will bring your way.
Do not fear growing old,
because as the years pass and the scars amass,
only more of the beauty that is you will shine through.
And this makes it impossible NOT to love."
